    Let the Music Play

    Shane Hansen

    Nightlife is Music
In many ways, music defines your nightlife experience. The type of club you‘re in, the type of people who go there, what those people will do when they get there and the unique character of the club can all be determined by the music being played. When someone asks me for advice about what lounge they should go to, or what club they should spend their Saturday night in, I always ask about their musical preferences. While some venues put little or no thought into what kind of music goes on from night to night, the venues that last the longest, whether you are talking about Cielo or Pacha, Don Hills or the Blue Note, are known for a particular type of music.

    Music and American culture
As important as music is to nightlife, you must also remember how important nightlife is to music. In an age of American Idol and iTunes it is easy to forget that iconic artists, legendary venues and entire genres of music come from the bars and clubs of New York City. Modern American music was born, grew up in and peaked on our stages. We are not just talking about hip hop and house. We are talking about jazz, salsa, folk, punk and several other genres. We are talking about everyone from Miles Davis to Santana to Bob Dylan to Blondie to Madonna to Junior Vasquez to Diddy and Lady Gaga. New York nightlife is as important to music as Hollywood is to movies.

    Nightlife and the Creative Process
Musicians of every type have come to New York to make it big since the 1920‘s. This is where they perfect their skills and musical styles in small empty venues before they become polished enough to go on tour. This is where they watch and interact with other artists to make connections and get better. This is where they hustle to survive until their break comes. Aspiring musicians need nightlife to reach their dreams.

    Nightlife Music Now
Yes, music in nightlife has changed. A&R people don’t have to haunt smoky bars at 3 a.m. to find the next big thing when they can watch YouTube instead. Venues are less willing to take risks with unknown music when they are struggling to make a profit. You and I can get our music any time we want, anyplace we want, so we are less willing to take a chance on a new artist much less a new genre. An artist can make a song, distribute it online and shop it around the world with out leaving her house.

But none of that changes the basic facts. Nightlife is still where our singers, songwriters, rappers, DJ’s and moguls of the future get their start. Nightlife is where you can develop a special connection to your music whether you hear your favorite artist live or you throw yourself into his song on the dance floor. Nightlife is music. As a special tribute to the connection between New York nightlife and music, we are going to dedicate the month of July to the heartbeat of the city. When I’m done, you’ll know that nightlife is as important to music as music is to you…

About

Global Adrenaline is a Chicago based entertainment and marketing company that specializes in celebrity/VIP nightlife events. The company is considered the premiere nightlife promotional company in Chicago. Global Adrenaline hosts over 300 nightlife events per year at such Chicago hotspots as Y Bar, Enclave, Crescendo, Spy Bar, and Climax – with an annual attendance over 165,000.

Global Adrenaline’s first event was an all-ages party on March 14, 1997 at Giorgio’s Banquets in Wood Dale, Illinois. The event featured B96 Mixmasters and djs from the infamous Harlem Jamz Records and was a smashing success for the rookie promotional team. This led the group to plan and produce a weekly all-ages dance party weekend at Club Fever, where the highlight was the Sunday industry party featuring Crobar’s DJ Psycho-Bitch.

As time passed, Global Adrenaline’s popularity began to grow which led them to Northern Illinois University’s campus where they held residencies at the Palace and Groove.  During this time, Global Adrenaline helped popularize the foam party concept. A near riot broke out at the first foam party when an estimated 1,500 party-goers showed up to a club that held only 600.

Following NIU, Global Adrenaline began organizing massive Midwest raves. The largest was the annual Stardust event which attracted over 3,500 party-goers and featured headliner djs such as Frankie Bones, Charles Feelgood, Donald Glaude, Richard Humpty Vission, and DJ Funk. These events would lead to a record deal with Underground Construction Music, where the company’s resident dj produced a licensed mix CD entitled, “Global Adrenaline: One”, which was nationally distributed.

Global Adrenaline’s success with all-ages events soon opened doors in Chicago’s downtown club scene. In 2002, Global Adrenaline hosted their first iCandy party – a visually stimulating and erotically delicious monthly theme party that transformed nightclubs with elaborate décor, costumed go-go dancers and models. With the success of iCandy and the rave scene collapsing, the group began to focus more attention on such Chicago nightclubs as Transit and Nocturnal. By 2004, Global Adrenaline had left its all-ages roots and was hosting entirely 21+ events, including their first New Year’s Eve party at W Chicago, which completely sold out. They soon landed a weekly residency at the highly anticipated mega-club, Sound-Bar, and a residency at Crobar followed shortly after.

Around this time, Global Adrenaline began to extend their marketing capabilities to businesses and advertising agencies by distributing flyers and posters throughout the city. This work lead the company to form a separate marketing division where they now provide brand ambassador street teams as well as execute non-traditional and online marketing campaigns for such clients as Disney, Toyota, Anheuser-Busch, Stolichnaya Vodka, Blackberry, and Hennessey.

All the while, Global Adrenaline’s acclaim in the Chicago nightlife scene continued to generate a larger buzz. In 2007, they celebrated their 10 year anniversary with an indoor/outdoor music festival that featured a celebrity appearance by Jenna Jameson. Soon after, Newcity Magazine ran a feature cover story on Global Adrenaline’s owner, Christian Banach.

New Year’s Eve remains Global Adrenaline’s marquee event each year. Where since 2006, the group has hosted it at the prestigious Hilton Chicago, where an average of 3,000 party-goers ring in the New Year. The summer of 2008 introduced Splash, Chicago’s first ever Vegas/Miami-style pool parties. That year, Halloween brought Global Adrenaline back to the W Chicago where they hosted the sold out Haunted Hotel Costume Ball.

Global Adrenaline has hosted events with such headliner acts as Sugar Ray, Lady Gaga, September, and Samantha Ronson, while also hosting world renowned djs such as BT, Seb Fontaine, Steve Angello, Steve Porter, and Sebastian Ingrosso. Their events are the home to celebrities, athletes and TV stars. Guest lists have included such stars as Mark McGrath, Dennis Rodman, Scott Weiland, and the late Heath Ledger.

Much too frequently, Global Adrenaline discovered that the celebrities who attended their events needed a better resource to provide promotional support as well as connect them to the national nightlife community. In 2009, GA Agency was launched, with the primary focus set on nightclub/bar appearances for reality TV stars and models. GA Agency rounded out the company’s portfolio which included event planning and promotions, marketing, and now talent booking and management.

Global Adrenaline is a well diversified organization with core competencies in entertainment and marketing. Their background not only keeps them on the cutting edge of trends, but helps them create them. Global Adrenaline looks forward to the future and plans to expand their platform all over the United States. Plans are underway to launch Global Adrenaline satellites in cities across the country in order to build a nightlife pipeline for launching talent, brands, and music on a national level.
